Our Story

In my mid-twenties I was finally able to grow a beard… the patches just filled in enough to where one can recognize it as such. More than twenty years later, the beard is still there, albeit, always short so always “manageable”. After deciding to grow it long, the “manageable” beard I’ve had for so long became very unruly, but I stuck to my guns and was determined to persevere during the “ugly stage”. My wife, who was tired of looking at the mess that was growing on my face, surprised me with a beard kit from Amazon. I was unsuccessful with convincing her that I will soon be exiting the “ugly stage”. I never believed in these beard care products, I saw them as gimmicks designed to take people’s money. Nevertheless, and with a copious amount of skepticism, I started using the kit.

The kit worked famously, or so I thought… my frame of reference was all natural, so I wasn’t exactly the expert. Like with everything else that I take interest in, I started digging. The first step was inspecting the label and the list of ingredients. Much of those ingredients, unpronounceable as they were, didn’t exactly instill in me the confidence of the idea that I was actually doing good by my beard. So I set out to find the best beard product available on the market… and I found many great ones! This sent me down another rabbit hole, this time, researching and learning about the various ingredients that were in these amazing products that made my beard feel and look so great. The more I dug, the more I became enthralled with how oils, in their natural state, can have such an amazing affect on our skin and our hair. Argan oil, Jojoba oil, Coconut oil, Almond oil, and a few others seemed to be prominently used across the various brands, and for good reason, they are great… but were these the only oils that have benefits for our skin and beards? The short answer is No.

In my quest to reach that answer, I came across many other natural oils that both scientifically and anecdotally claimed to have amazing benefits for our skin and our hair. As I started learning about these alternatives, my curiosity got the best of me… so I decided to make my own “super beard oil”. Some of these oils were hard to come by. Some of them were ridiculously more costly than the “standard” oils being used… but as the saying goes, “you get what you pay for”.

I started mixing and coming up with blends and I quickly learned that making a “super beard oil” isn’t just dumping a bunch of oils in a Boston round, shaking well, and applying. It is more nuanced than that, a bit more finesse was needed. I learned that some of these amazing oils will just not work for beard applications, no matter how great they were. But I also learned that some will, and after much trial and error, my “super beard oil” was created. I started using it and testing it against other oils… I would apply half to one side, then another oil on the other half then ask my wife, my kids, and pretty much anyone who was willing to touch my beard to tell me which side felt softer… and mine always won!

So I decided to make a beard care company, right? Wrong! This became a hobby for me… my upbringing with parents that always owned their own business, my own history with owning various businesses, still were not enough for me to realize this in any other way than having fun. As cliché as this is, it wasn’t until I started sharing my concoction with bearded family members and friends and seeing their reaction to my “super beard oil” that I came around to the idea of turning this into a company. But, in order to do so, I had to make sure that the product that I sell will be precisely the product that I put in my own beard; meaning, no skimping out on ingredients… ever.

With that, American Dude Company was born.

What's in the Name?

We love beards, we love America, we love guns, and we love people that love these things! American Dude Company represents the average American man, bearded or not. As we expand our product line, our promise will be that everything we put our name on will always be made in the USA… this is non-negotiable.

American Dude means that we take pride in what we do and how we do things. We appreciate our customers and respect the fact that they trust us to provide them with a product worthy of them. We believe that the experience we provide our customers is as important as the products we offer.

American Dude means that we honor this great country and recognize that it was built on the freedom and rights that every person is entitled to by virtue of being a human being. We stand firmly for the protection of our First and Second Amendment rights. We also realize that our stance on these issues may offend some people, and we are okay with that. If our patriotism makes you uncomfortable, then you are the one that needs to reevaluate your position.

American Dude means that we are not ashamed to say that we love guns. We love them for many reasons; for sport, for fun, for protecting our loved ones, for protecting our country. Politicians and their media cohorts wish to vilify guns and gun owners so that it will be easier to take them away… but no matter how many times they tell us that AR stands for “assault rifle”, it doesn’t change the fact that it really stands for ArmaLite Rifle.

American Dude means that we welcome everybody, just like our beautiful country does.

Our Mission

We want to provide men with products that make them feel and look their best. To reach out to all corners of America and connect with like minded people who share our love for country, guns, beards, and family. To do right by each other whenever there is an opportunity to do so.

Our Core Values guide us on the path of self-betterment, knowledge, and respect for one another.
